Hiatus
Once again, forces beyond my meager control are going to stop me from continuing Nihilism for Dummies for the time being.
I know that all three of my regular viewers are crushed.
Anyways, I'm looking at two or three different problems. First, I'm still frustrated in my efforts to remain as DIY as possible in relation to running the content on this site. Not just the blog, necessarily. Still, I'm no php or perl programmer, and even the vagaries of XHTML are staying beyond me at this point. This site is barely valid markup in any sense of the word. And I don't want to really fiddle with it if I can't make sure I can always say, "it's not my code, it's your browser."
Secondly, I'm looking at various options for moving this site to a new host, one that will also allow me to have some of my close, personal friends to have their own sites as well (something that the SDF isn't really setup for, even with their advanced options - as near as I can tell). Plus, we all need a space for us. Somewhere we can post our findings from what's left on the Wonderful Weird Web.
Third, I've pretty much run out of ideas for this site. NFD was always supposed to be a joke, of sorts, something for me to use as a pressure vent to get out some of my own personal issues. Well, I've done that to some extent, and I've managed to get - um, almost no real feedback from the outside world. Oh well. At least it's my sandbox. I can write my own rules.
I want to branch out and do more writing, since I'm still under some amazing conceit that one day I'll get an email that says, "hey there, mr. catastrophe, come write for us. we will pay you. you never have to leave the house." Or something to that effect. Will it happen? No. Not to me and not to any of the million other bloggers. We all occupy some other corner of the media establishment. The corner opposite where the buildings and the offices are, waving our little "Corporate Media Sucks" signs, all the while hoping secretly that the doors will open and we will one by one be called in.
We're all whores, only we aren't getting paid. I guess that makes us media sluts. Ah well. Gotta start somewhere.
So, sure, I wanted this site to be more successful. Who doesn't? It's just like the poser alt-rock bands who don't want "success." Bullshit, you started a band and everyone knows that bands are started for three reasons: the women, the drugs, and the fame. That's why so many of them aren't even bothered when they figure out there's no money in it. Me, I just wanted a voice. Maybe I can get one somewhere's else, who knows?
So, for now, I'm signing off. The blog section might get moved somewhere on this server first, watch this space for details.

Nihilism for Dummies will be undergoing a few changes next month, assuming that I am able to make the changes work correctly. I plan on splitting up posts into different categories, and possibly changing the way the archives are set up to along with the change. If you've linked to one of the pages here, you might want to get in touch with me once you notice a change in this site, especially if you notice the link no longer works.
Of course, all of this might not happen. The web's weird like that. But, hey, at least I'm not putting up an "under construction" gif. I'll save that for later.
